Public Speaking Competition

假期前几个星期，我参加了一个比赛（Public Speaking Competition）。说真的，我有点后悔参加了这比赛，搞得自己那么忙。。。

1 第一次参加，不懂规矩。
2 找不到演讲稿。（最后一恬帮我找到了~谢谢）
3 有些英语字不会读，一直翻字典
4 演讲稿很长，结果就把它缩短
5 。。。。。

以下是我的演讲稿（The Environment: Our Future）而且改了还不少tim~ 哈哈！

Can you imagine the earth as a barren desert with no forms of life on it? Now, global warming is happening all over the globe and it causes the ocean tides and average temperatures around the world to rise.

We should also play our part by taking public transport, using car less and walking or cycling more. In this way, we are able to have sufficient exercise; save fuel costs at the same time.
Althought the countries that have the resources to preserve the environment are already adapting to do so, there are still some countries that are not playing their part. In order to prevent more harm being done to the environment in this way, other countries should lend a helping hand by providing support to the underdeveloped countries to adapt to preserve the environment. If we do not act responsibly, the nightmare of the earth becoming a uninhabitable will become reality in the near future.

Governments all over the world are erecting laws to protect our enviroment and curb pollution. But are we following them? Because if we do not following them, we would be destroying the every thing that brought us up and allowed us to live comfortably. In order to preserve the environment, we must peacefully corxist with it, and not battle it.
The forms of renewable energy available are not little. Instead of burning coal and gas generate electricity, we can utilize solar power, wind power and hydropower. Although the basic costs are not cheap, they will prove to be more cost-effective in the years to come.

As Nelson Mandela puts it, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." To make sure that the next generation is environment-friendly, good habits must be instilled in them from the day they are born. In this way, we would be able to hand down the earth to the next generation by teaching them how to appreciate and preserve the environment.

As responsible citicens, we can help preserve the environment by cut down the usage of natural resources if we abide by some simple rules. Firstly, we should turn our air-conditioning temperature down one or two degrees Celsius, this would be cutting down on a few tones of greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, we should only use air-conditioning when necessary. Secondly, we should switch off electrical appliances when not in use. By doing this, we would be able to save a whole lot of electricity in the long run. Another simple rule is to wash our clothes using the washing mechine only when there is a full load.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citicens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." We may not be able to preserve the environment perfectly. But if we work hard to cut down on resources used and toxic gas emmission into the atmosphere, we may yet have a chance to preserve the environment.

你们看！虽然我把它缩短了，不过它还是属于一篇长的演讲稿！！！哎。。。只好在这个假期把它背得滚瓜烂熟了。。。T.T
